I could be putting up information on the imminent election of Andrea Merkel as the first woman Chancellor in German history, but I doubt anyone really cares about the economic minutia that got her the job.

I could incite a post riot about the riots in France, but since the least inflamatory of the readable articles starts by addressing immigrants as "serfs" and goes from there, I decided not.

Here's a link to some good news on the American political front.

New mayor wins by 2

Now you realize they only had about 16% of the population vote?

Granted it's only been up for two days, but no one wishes to comment on an eighteen year old running his hometown? Not even the 25% or so of our members who are that age?

Sheesh.

Well I guess there just isn't much to say Guardian, he got elected (for now) good for him, I didn't even know you could run for Mayor at age 18...

I can't see much point in being a mayor at such a young age, unless you were corrupt! then it would be fun.. Otherwise, just a good start to a possibly long career in politics.

French riots, well, I think any riot means someone is doing something wrong and oppressive.

First German female chancellor, is that good or bad? :D

As much as I enjoy the idea of France burning to the ground, the riots highlight a grievous hypocrasy for which this is far too light a punishment. Long have the French louted their culture as a beacon of equality and tolerance; these race riots, fueled by animosity stemming from the mistreatment of Algerian-French tell a completely different story, one that is a stark reminder to me of why I despise them as a people, and as a society.

I doubt you could travel anywhere and not find a similar situation.

It's sadly ironic that our species can excel at forming small groups of people with wildly opposing viewpoints, yet can't seem to view the entire species that way.

I find that someone saying that they despise an entire race because some of them are racist is overwhelmingly funny.

But then I remember my mod hat, and I have to say "Knock it off. Seriously"

I find it much more interesting that she's from former East Germany.

Primary reason for post: HUMOR (I'm not trying to start a debate)

S_P, that sounds like the US to me. We are supposeed to be the land of the free and the tolerant and we welcome all with open arms and riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

One of my professors has some interesting stuff posted outside his door. There is a picture of a white guy and girl with a little news report next to it talking about how these people found food and other supplies. "Found" was highlighted. Under it is a picture of a black guy with a news report saying he looted food and other supplies. "Looted" is highlighted. Under the second news report, the prof wrote on a peice of paper, "There are shoot to kill orders for the looters."

So yeah, it sounds like S_P is describing the US. That's all I guess.
