Every summer I run Alternity campaigns for my brother and his friends. Usually there is one computer hacker in the party and I didn't like having the rest of the group sit aside while the hacker navigated cyber space. Since we also play NetRunner, I grabbed a few pieces of ICE and had computer systems guarded by dataforts while the hacker bought programs from the Runner deck. The cards make narrating the hacking attempt easy and using the mechanics of NetRunner makes the hacking attempt take very little time.
I came up with these tables for quick datafort generation. Also included is a Matrix for determining the cost of a hacker's computer.
I originally intended for these rules to be used in a near-future Dark•Matter campaign, but I suppose they can work for any progress level near future and up.
NetRunner card lists can be found at http://www.netrunneronline.com/home/ With a little looking, image archives of the cards can be found online too, but for speed and fun it's best to have the physical cards.

Some time ago my missile-loving player (and friend) showed me his pet project, a more flexible way of creating missiles and other ordnance based on warships creation rules.
You all know how rubbish are Warships missiles.
But he had some problems, something required a rearrangement of something else... that required more rearrangements.
Anyways, to make a long story short, this is the result of our efforts.
Anyone that likes to build ships with Warships rules and loves missiles is hereby invited to build missiles, probes, strange awkward space vehicles using these homebrewed rules.
If you want to provide coherent feedback without using the clumsy comment section I suggest trying this thread--> http://alternityrpg.net/onlineforums/index.php?showtopic=8640
Huh, if you want to post your creations using these rules (in the thread I mentioned) I will add them to the resource.
Have fun.
###Updated 16/02/10, corrected some mistakes, modified a little some mechanics, added some PL6 sample missiles, will ad some more as time allows it
###Updated 18/04/10, tweaked Lanthanide capacitor price, corrected the "Docking Clamps, small". Now they are Pod Docking clamps, and are woth to be used.
I also added a couple Spaceshipping Containers, following the events on this thread: http://alternityrpg.net/onlineforums/index.php?act=ST&f=9&t=8546&st=0#entry242019
###Updated 18/05/10, added a few systems dedicated to Reentry Pods and capsules, fixed some holes in the Special Fuel Tank rules, added a few thoughts about drop pods, added a sample Stardrive-equipped message drone and a drop pod. Some overall clarifications around and some minor clarifications on Accomodations and Reentry Module (that now is just Heat Shield).

3D movement is complex and most approximations are... well, approximations. With Warships "splitting movement" rule you travel shorter distances for example. Or use a frankly weird system of "dive maneuvers" or "rise maneuvers".
The most complex thing of all was sensor and weapon range, and that required a calculator handy.
I always thought that it was really immersion-breaking, so I bunched in a couple tables of pythagorean theorems in Calc and formatted them in a easy-to-read way (depending on what you need to do with that table). Then exported them as pdf for easy distribution to friends and here.
Not a really novel idea, but you may find them interesting.
Tell me if you find them useful, or if you already use one of your "invention".
Or anything that comes into your mind about them.
Have Fun. | |
